Ok, this may be a dork question, and I totally apologize for that, but can anyone tell me how to get the video from a DVCPRO tape into my FCP Capture using the DVCAM Sony deck? Is this even possible? The DVCAM plays the tape, but the video footage is not going over the Firewire to the Mac. Any help is much appreciated!

    kev~!

You’re finding that DVCAM deck will play DVCPro analog out but not firewire. You’ll need to send it to a device that can take the analog in and sent that out firewire. You might have a DV camera that can take analog in and pass through firewire or use an analog to DV convertor.

are you sure your Sony DVCam deck WILL play DVCPro tapes?
    What model is your deck?

[Post Man] “are you sure your Sony DVCam deck WILL play DVCPro tapes?”

I was under the impression that it only went the other way,
Ie: the Panny will play sony tapes…

Since I put the Tape in and it Played, yes I’m sure it plays… I just think it very odd that it can play it but not pump something over the firewire.

Many people have done this. A lowly Sony DSR-11 can do this. I’ve head Sony can’t “say” that it can due to licensing reasons. Don’t know that for sure but I’ve heard that’s the reason it’s never mentioned in any product literature.

In any case, what you’ll find is that you can get analog out but not firewire. So you’ve got to use some other device with analog in to convert to firewire (or convert to some form that can go into an analog input card if you have one).

I also had experienced this, with my Sony DSR-25.
It Plays DVCPro tapes fine for playback, but through the firewire port, I get nothing….

Here was my solution…. I also have a DVCPro Camera, so I hooked up the DVCPro camera outputs into my inputs on my deck, turned on the EE passthrough on the deck, and Volia….
I have to play the tape through the camera, but it gets it into FCP via the deck and firewire…

    Hope this helped you!
