I have a problem. Here are my specs. I have a Mac Pro 2.66 Quad Core Intel Xeon running 12 GB of ram memory. I have DVC Pro HD files from a FS-100. If I open them up to watch in Quicktime, they are great. When I import them into FCP, the playback is jerky and shows artifacting. I have it set on Unlimited RT with dynamic setting on frame rate and playback. Is this something wrong in FCP ? This artifacting issue is getting worse in any codec I use. I stored the original files on a G-Raid 2.0 TB external. really frustrating here. I need to put all of these 2.0 GB files into one for video playback for multi-site venues. Should I try Adobe Premiere Pro ?

DVCPRO HD is one of the easier and slicker HD formats that FCP works with.

You recorded this with the Firestore..as QT files or as P2? How did you get the media into FCP?

What are your sequence settings? They should match the clip settings.

    What version of FCP?

The dynamic image quality setting in the RT panel will cause you footage to drop down to a fraction of its resolution during playback, so that’s an issue. Also, set the size of your canvas to exactly 100%.

Now, the bigger question is why are you have any issues playing DVCProHD? It’s a compressed codec that’s very easy to play on most, even older, systems. So, how do you have that G-Raid drive connected?

Is it formatted for MacOSX extended or for PC (FAT32)?

You should be able to play DVCProHD smoothly with ease. You should definitely run the AJA System Test Disk Read/Write test on that drive to see if it has issues. It should be getting somewhere around 65Mb/s or higher.
