  • DVC Pro HD frame size in AE?

Posted by Jordan Montreuil on March 21, 2008 at 11:19 pm

I have been working with some DVC Pro HD footage in Final Cut and I am working on my workflow from FCP to AE and back.

The problem I am getting is that my frame size is 1280×720 in the Quicktime movie and in FCP but when I import my footage into After Effects, it brings it in as 960×720. The footage is squashed horizontally and is in a standard format instead of a widescreen format.

I have tried re-interpreting the footage but nothing good has come out of it. I inspected the movie in QT and have taken a picture of the file information to show you.

I created independent master clips that I am editing with, instead of the captures from the P2 files, and they exported out of FCP at 1280×720 instead of the 960×720. I thought this would change it but After Effects still reads the master clips at the old frame size.

What am I missing here? I hope someone can help me. Its nearly impossible to work with the footage in AE in its current state.

    Thanks.

Why don’t you (in AE) interpret at 960×720, pixel aspect ratio of 1.33?

    It is interpreted at 1.33

It’s still showing at standard screen format. It should be widescreen. Am I doing something wrong?

Click the pixel aspect ratio correction switch at the bottom of the comp window.

Thank you so much for your help. Its the little things that you realize you don’t know that really stop the big things from going forward. I really appreciate your help.
