DVC Pro HD codec help needed

Try the Pansonic website. Go into the Professional section and look up the DVCPro VTR’s. In the 1200A VTR support section there are some DVCPro HD downloads. Not sure if the codec itself is in there, but it might be.

I dont know on a mac but on pc you can download the tryout version of CINEFORM ASPECT for premiere and convert the P2 file in cineform codec with HDlink… it will open fine in After Effects. When the tryout will expire, you can still use the footage you digitize.

Although you can convert P2 files on both platforms, I haven’t found a DVCProHD codec that is crossplatform.

The Cineform codec won’t allow you to bring your files to OSX, and the Quicktime DVCProHD component isn’t available on Windows. Avid has a DV100 codec that is available on Windows, but I can’t find it for Mac.

So if you need cross-platform projects and files, DVCProHD seems problematic. On a current project, I’m resorting to transcoding everything to Quicktime Animation to make sure we can load up projects including footage on OSX AND Windows…

I’ve been using DVFilmMaker ($145) to convert the .mxf files on the P2 cards to Quicktime movies on Windows.

I should probably clarify.

I’m working with .mov files that are encoded with the DVC Pro HD codec. I’m not pulling anything off a P2 card or anything like that. I just need something so that A. quicktime will actually play the files and B. make it so I can work with them in AE.
