I just finished a graphics intensive half hour infomercial and it’s time to lay the cheesy thing to tape(DigiBeta thru Kona LH SDI)…before I do, I really want the graphics to look their best.

The show was shot in DVCPRO50 and I decided to stay with that codec for the online. I created a new 10 bit uncomp. timeline and dragged the DV50 Show Master timeline into it. Then I went to the motion tab and shifted the entire timeline down a frame to -1. Everything looks good. Was it really that easy? Since when is post ever THAT seamless? Before I master it to tape, I’d like some reassurance that this is the best workflow.

How much benefit will my graphics really see 10 bit uncomp? Is it worth the big time investment in a hefty render session? Does anyone output “broadcast” content with graphics from a DV50 timeline?

    Thanks!
    Jeff

What codec are your graphics in? If they are all ready in the DV50 timeline you are not going to see any difference in placing the entire finished edit into a 10 bit sequence. If this is the case, save yourself the time and just output to tape from the dv50 sequence,

The only improvement would be if the video (without graphics) is brought into the 10 bit seq. and then the graphics are producer in that seq. or render from your graphics program as 10 bit.
