Using a Sony Handycam to capture old footage from DV tapes.
Done this many, many times before with no issues, but not recently.
This time VidCap in both Vegas 10 and 11 fails to recognize the camera, (a DCR-TRV25), that I’ve been using for years.
    Must be overlooking something obvious

Make sure that you are using the DV capture tool and not the HDV capture tool. Does Windows see the DV camcorder? If it doesn’t Vegas never will. This could point to a bad firewire cable.

Or a fried firewire board in the camera/computer. If you have another computer and find the camera is recognised, your cable or firewire port in the computer may be damaged. If the camera is not being recognised, it would suggest the onboard firewire circuit in the camera is damaged. They cost the price of a new camera to replace :-(.

Are you using a DV line protector between your camera and computer connections?
