Activity Forums Boris FX Particle Illusion DV AVI Import

  • Posted by Brain Cadoret on October 1, 2008 at 5:22 pm

    Hi
Trying the SE 2.0.4 before upgrading which has support for importing DV-AVI
When importing DV-AVI or AVI with a codec the movie plays on the stage in slow motion.
I guess I’m used to video editors where the movie plays back in near real time.
Is there a setting or tutorial to allow the background movie to play in real time.
    Many thanks

You may be able to improve performance using the following tips:

    – In particleIllusion Preferences, OpenGL page, check the “do not use texture RAM for bg images” option

    – If you’re using a long movie (longer than 300 frames), see if you can break the movie up into shorter clips, and work on the short clips in particleIllusion

    – Convert the DV AVI into another format (DivX maybe?) or into a JPG image sequence and load that into particleIllusion instead.

Let me know if anything helped.

    Alan.

Thank you Alan have encoded a short sample to DivX but when trying to import into PI SE (V3 demo also) there is no option for that, only the AVI’s etc under All Supported Formats.
Will try other codecs please let me know if DivX is an option.

Hmm. I meant encode to AVI using the DivX codec. I haven’t updated my DivX install in a very long time, so maybe the latest versions don’t produce an AVI? That would surprise me.

It needs to be an AVI in order for pIllusion to load it.
