Duration of project
Hi –
I have a 90 minute FCP project that I’m having trouble putting on a ‘regular’ DVD-R, which I thought was supposed to hold about 120 minutes, minus a few for DVD menus and such. iDVD says the project is too large for a single-layer DVD and asks for a dual layer DVD.
I’m wondering why a 90 min. project would be too large for a single-layer DVD, and if using Compressor would be an option for me to make it fit? I’m overwhelmed by all the compressor choices, and wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction as to what setting to choose?
The original footage is DV.

The problem is your audio tracks are most likely being encoded as PCM in iDVD, rather than compressed as Dolby Digital AC3 audio as its done in Compressor and on most professional DVDs. I don’t know iDVD well enough to know if it even has the capability to encode AC3, but that’s what you should be looking for.

Found a simple fix actually – iDVD offers three encoding choices. If you change to either “high quality” or “professional” by going to Project > Project Info, you’ll be able to fix longer projects on single-layer DVDs.
