Duplicating layers with an automatic offset for each copy…
Isn’t there a smart way to copy an existing layer eg… 24 times giving each layer an offset in time of, say… 3 seconds without copying (CTRL+D) then dragging each layer along the timeline …?

keyframe assistant will sequence layers and has an option for ‘overlap’..
that’s a bit different than offset, in that the if your layers were 30sec long and you wanted a 3sec offset, you’d set the overlap to 27sec.
the other problem could be that your layers are shorter than 3sec, then overlap would not work.
you might also search for a script that would do this: aenhancers.com, aescritps.com and/or crgreen.com/aescripts/ would be good places to look.

Pretty sure you have to keep pressing “cntl-d”, but head over to videocopilot.net. In one of the tutorials he created a script that does exactly what you want, he calls it the “sequencer”(Tutorial 103 has it), very handy.
