I have already digitized all my clips. I notice drop-out on some of them and want to go back to the master tape to see if it is in the master. If not, I will redigitize the clips where there is a problem. However, I never made a clone of the master. I want to do this before I start rattling it around in my deck any more and of course I want the clone to have time code. I have a Sony VX2000 camera and a Sony GVD 300 deck. I can make a dub of a tape with these two pieces of equipment, but not with timecode. What should I do? (I realize that there is nothing inherently FCP about this question. Is there a better place to post it?)
    Thanks much.

[Victoria] “I can make a dub of a tape with these two pieces of equipment, but not with timecode. What should I do? “

I woudn’t worry about the TC matching.
The chance of anything happening to your master the few times you play it is almost NIL.

If you just make a clone with the TC “close to” that of the Master, you’ll be fine.
If you DO ever need to use the clone, you can match it by eye.

OTOH, you can pay a production house to dub it with TC for you.
Of course that means GIVING THEM your master… I you DARE. 🙂

I suppose you could RENT a pro deck that has a setting to accept external TC and Playbackon your camcorder or deck.

Thanks Matte. I’ll probably make a dub with the time code close but not matched. I may check out what it would cost to have it professionally done. It is one hour of DV. I have no idea what it would cost. If I go that route I will make a clone of my own without timecode first.
