I am running a Power Mac g5/power pc 970 (2.2) with 1GB memory and my display card is an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro. For the past several years I have been editing lots of dv footage using two Viewsonic 17″ monitors. I recently inherited two 23″ cinema HD displays (the acrylic ones) and I can only get one to work. I can run one of them and one of the viewsonics, but once I plug in the 2nd 23, it goes black and the other one (that was working) becomes the second display. The Radeon card has a DVI and ADC input so I am using one converter (DVI to ADC) to hook them both up. The literatureI have read seems to indicate that this card can handle both, in fact that is what they told me at one Apple reseller. The converted signal is the one that works while the direct to DVI input is the one that always goes black. I have tried swapping the monitors with the same result, so I beleive they are both operational. Do I need new card? and if so which can you recommend? Thanks in advance for any help.

Can’t run both off one port if that’s what you’re doing. One goes into the ADC and one goes to the DVI.

On a side note, 1GB of RAM is woefully low. 2GB Minimum, 4GB better.

Soooo when the converter is used, no signal? I’d suspect the converter might be the problem, and if it’s not, it’s the card itself. Is there a way you can connect the DVI port directly to rule out the card?

If it’s one of those unpowered converters, it definitely won’t work. We had to purchase the $100 Dr. Bott DVI to ADC converters in order to make our old ADC monitors work with DVI.

I actually just threw two of them away.

Not using two on one port, not even sure that is possible, but I do have both monitors into one card – one in the DVI and one in the ADC (after going through the powered converter). And the monitor with the converter is the one that is working. Is the memory the issue? New card? Additional card?
