  • DSR-11 deck not recognized by FCP?

For a year I had my Sony DSR-11 connected to my Power Mac G5 FCP system with no problems. I disconnected the deck for a week and when I reconnected it Final Cut didn’t recognize the deck (no firewire device). I’ve changed wires, ports and checked settings with no luck. The deck works fine in every other way. I plugged the deck into my firewire drive and it disconnected the drive from my system (device removal). Is this a deck setting? Is the Firewire port bad? any clues? Thank you in advance!

Resetting the firewire bus can be as easy as restarting the Mac or as weird as pushing that freaky little button on the magic mother board; PMU, I believe it’s called.

You can try the apple.com forums, hardware, and search carefully for firewire problems.

I wish you luck but if you’re sure the port is good, that leaves the deck or the deck’s FW connection. You must eliminate one thing at a time and that often means having another Mac to hook up to your dsr11.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
