I recently purchased a SONY DSR-11 deck and I have been getting weird behavior when connecting to my computer. When it is connected from turning my Mac on, some of my drives wont mount as well as FCP will not open. It get stuck on its start up screen Im wondering if its a faulty firewire connection. Any thoughts.

All Macs have only one firewire bus, and often drives and other DV devices conflict over those ports. This might be the case.

If you get a PCI-X Firewire card, then you can add another firewire bus.

but would that explain FCP freezing up upon launch.

Also, I recently did a 2 camera shoot, both cameras running side by side simultaneously. Both cameras were paused and started at the sametime. Both camera tapes have the same amount of TC breaks. Both tapes made a new clip the same amount of times. The only difference is that on tape, towards the end of the tape, the tape is missing footage at the end of the take. A minute or so in some cases. So, I think, the deck must be capturing the footage, always seeing the same breaks, but somehow disregarding some of the footage. This is only occuring when I use this deck. When I capture with my camera, I do not experience any of these problems.

And as suggested I installed an extra firewire card….

    Result:

    DSR-11 working
    FCP starting.

What u have heard is true.
