does your G5 have two firewire cards?
Not ports, but 2 separate cards (or buses).

Even though some folks have had no problems with external drives and firewire capture, it is recommended that you add an additional firewire bus to your machine. This may fix your dropped frame problem.

Also, confirm you are digitizing in a proper codec for your setup.
Many people experience dropped frames when trying to digitize even dvcpro50 over firewire (usually with drives equipped with firewire 400 only), but have no trouble with dv.

In Log and Capture, in the option capture settings in device control put the option Non- Controllace device, and make the capture manual, i thing that is the most easy way

What codec should I be using to digitize this dvcam footage. Again never had a problem until today.

If these DVCam tapes are your only source, and you’re in NTSC-land, capture at DV/DVCPro NTSC, unless you have other sources from other formats captured through a I/O card.

I’m guessing since you’re using firewire to capture here, you don’t have an I/O card, but I wanted to cover that base.

Have you upgraded any software since this last worked for you? Since FW is not recommended for media storage, the headroom in FW that may have allowed you to capture before this way may have been repurposed by the app. This is why the second FW bus is recommended.

If nothing has changed, try powering everything down and letting it rest for 5 minutes. Then power up in no particular order, except make sure you turn on the CPU last.

I found it out.

I changed the scratch disk to my terrabyte drive. Question. I origanlly had a terrabyte drive and the connection board was busted, so I took the drive apart and made four 250 gig drives. I was using one as the scratch disk when this all happened. In my reading of the maual for FCp it said that I should try a new drive and i did. That was the the drive i was using pior to this project.

My question is why would it drop frames on the spit up terra drive?
