Dropped frames in viewer but not timeline
Hi All,
Sigh. I’ve spent hours upon hours trying to get comfortable with FCP, and no sooner do I get past one issue than another pops up. And I keep running into problems that don’t seem to appear in the documentation or my Focal Press FCP 2 book.My latest: after learning ripple edits and doing one successfully, I screw one up, create a gap, a red line, and an unrendered section in the timeline. So I decide to delete the offending clip and re-insert it.
For perhaps related but unknown reasons FCP now finds itself in a state in which the timeline plays perfectly in the canvas, a selected clip from the timeline plays perfectly in the viewer, a clip from the browser plays perfectly in the Quicktime clip editor, but a clip from the browser won’t play in the viewer without halting immediately with a “dropped frames on playback” message.
I’ve tried the usual “dropped frames on playback” remedies and even the lesser known that have worked in the past such as checking the size of the viewer window so that it doesn’t overlap other windows.
I’ve exited and restarted the program, set it to view with and without an external monitor, with and without mirroring external monitor, etc.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Using FCP2 and OS 9.2.2 in their own partition on a G4 Tibook with 1 mg RAM, external firewire 7200 rpm hard drive.
