I tried to post a similar topic on the Sony Vegas forum with no response, so I figured I would check here.

I am trying to batch capture from a Sony Betacam SP Deck using Blckmagic Design DeckLink in Sony Vegas 8. Every time I capture I end up with dropped frames. The longer the clip time the more frames dropped.

Now when I playback, I don’t notice any drop in audio but it is disconcerting not knowing if I am getting all the data I need.

I am working with a Quad Core PC and have attempted capturing via a small Canon HD Cam with no drops at all.

    My question is…

Are there settings I am forgetting to adjust before a DeckLink capture? I have never used on before and am not sure if I have everything configured correctly. Does anyone have any default settings they use or suggest? Anything helps.

    Thanks.

    Hi Corey,

Dropped frames are *usually* an indication of your hard disk not keeping up with the data rate of the video format you’re capturing. For example, capturing uncompressed video will require substantially more throughput than DV via firewire.

What kind of drives are you capturing to? We include a disk speed test utility so run that against your drive and see what you’re getting. This will be the first thing I would do.

    many thanks
