Dropped frames a result of scratch disk to internal harddrive?
Hi all,
Using FCP7 and editing h.264 (i know I know).
Yesterday, fcp started dropping frames heavily in playback randomly.
I’ve been reading other threads on this and it looks like most people use a separate harddrive to form their scratch disks and caches.
My question is, is it that detrimental to just use my internal harddrive? Could it be the cause of this?
The thing is, it was working smoothly before.
I’m baffled….help!Thanks!

Using FCP7 and editing h.264 (i know I know).”Then don’t. You are having issues and are trying to lay blame somewhere else, when H.264 native in FCP IS the issue.
Convert it to ProRes and move on.
Although using your system drive is not recommended…it’s busy with the OS and apps. Always use a separate drive for media. And NEVER use H.264 in FCP. Don’t try to blame other things on the very obvious issue.
