  • Drive Dead? MAIN PROJECT and FILES!

I have two LACIE drives hooked together (Mac>FW400>FW800) The FW800 has all my AE files and media for a big#$% project I’ve been working on. I can’t seem to copy anything off the drive and my last AE project wont even open OOUCH! Started from scratch thinking it’s bad luck, but now files wont even render in LIVE TYPE to it or from it. I’ve tried to do a collect to an internal drive but I keep getting this message ” After Effects error: reading file”projectname” – disc-error (I/O error; bad media) (-36)”. Any ideas of what to do?… yes I did recently “upgrade” to Tiger. THANKS!

Have you tried Disk Utility in the Utilities folder?
Is the drive with your projects on it the only one hooked up?
Tell us a bit more about your system.

I did run DU once. Not sure if I used it correctly or not. I did a VERIFY and a REPAIR and it said “NO REPAIR WERE NECESSARY”.
I had it open and was working on it yesteday. I have a couple other projects in the same folder that open fine (these are prior incarnation to this specific project, just save and renamed every few weeks). It’s just this last file have alot of work done to it and for some reason, gives me an error when openning. The error says “AFTER EFFECTS error: file is damaged. (33 “some symbol that looks like a 5 or S” 7).

Thanks for your time. If you have any suggestions. I guess the main thing is to find a way to copy these files to another drive and go from there. But when I try to drag files to another drive I get this message “The finder cannot complete the operation because some data in “file name.mov” could not be read or written (error -36). What’s even weirder is other files not part of this AE project on this drive CAN be moved.

    G4 450DP running AE 6.5.1
LACIE 400 and LACIE 400/800 plugged in via the 400
The media and projects are on the second FW drive in the chain. I’ve gone from the computer straight to this drive to see if it was a FW chain thing, but still no go.

Do a get info on the drive and folders and see if you have permission to read and write to the drive and folders.
Did this happen directly after you installed Tiger? or a few days later?
Can you install panther on another partition and try to move the files
    do you have disk warrior?

I have had a few wierd things go on since Tiger, but I did have this file open since.
I do not have Disc Warrior. I will buy a copy. I think in the mean time I may need to start rebuilding some of this stuff! Ouch!
Would Disc Doctor possibly fix a file that can’t open.

Thx again for your time a speedy resonsees.

thanks for your help today, under the gun, so spent the day recreating what i could of what didn’t open and rounded up what I could from dackup discs. Once I get to a good place, I’ll have to revisit that drive and find out what’s up. I’ll go out tomorrow and pickup Disc Warrior and see if that helps.

I really appriciate your time today!

    Thanks.

Will write back and keep an update incase someone else has the same problems.

yes. archive install. I’m a knuckle head thinking all this was safe on an external drive. I read somewhere, after installing I should do something with my “permissions”, update or trash or something?, can’t find the thread now. Any idea what that does, and should I do it?

    thx
