Drawing Effect Over Video by Using Layer as a Trace Template. Difficulty Making a Mask for Drawing
Hello There,
Newbie here. I am drawing over footage similar to this effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tfr0IDpqYXM
In attempt to be more intricate, I am using a footage as a template to trace over objects and people. The end goal is to layer these animated illustrations over the actual footage to put them in the scene. In an attempt to have them more integrated within the scene I want to Mask objects and actors around them. For examples have one of the illustrations walk behind a car or wall.The difficulty is the masking. I can’t seem to isolate the drawing to mask parts of it out. Would anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? I tunred ON Paint on Transparent then using the Compositing Option + in the effect tab to apply the mask to the paint effect but the mask seems to reveal the footage that I just made transparent. Help in this matter would be wonderful!!

For foreground objects, I think it’s probably easier to use a separate layer above your drawing layers. Then use a mask to isolate the foreground.
