dragging transitions to time line

since weeks I have been trying to add a transition between 2 clips
FCP7 and FCE4 keep rejecting any transition
just getting my movie files which work on any PC recognized by this
bloatware was a lengthy pain
why is it so complicated and time killing to add some transitions
editing with final cut pro 7 is worse than in the old days

with Pinnacle I can make movies within minutes just drag and drop
any format any camera no problem

how can apple get away with such terrible applications

Hi Guys, have been reading this thread and wonder if anyone can help
me.
My problem is that when I add a transition such as a cross dissolve to my first edit point, it is only applied to the first shot.
I have highlighted the edit point to display the handle bars but the effect is still applied to the first shot only.
I previously achieved this but I have since had to change this first shot( the clour space was wrong). At other edit points I don’t have a problem.
This first shot is a logo which arrived to me as a jpeg, I then changed the colour space to RGB and imported it in to fcp, I had to add a white background to this jpeg, which I have nested into one shot.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
