I just got some dpx files from a transfer house – a producer is asking me to find the still which a previous editor made from the offline footage in the edit and convert the full res DPX identical frame into a 300 DPI tiff file – matching the exact same still is hard enough i am guessing but i dont even know what to use in order to do this —-

Do I use Color, AE, FCP or what??

I am on a fully updated FCP station with a Blackmagic HD extreme card.

I need to do this asap so any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

    import it into AE.

    export it as a .tif

open in photoshop, resize changing the dpi to 300

    save and send it.

thats about all you can do.

    Hello Chris

thnaks for the fast reply sire – much appreciated.

Only question I have is just exactly how to do this process in AE and what things I need to be aware of when importing these dpx sequences and the nexporting out a tiff…If i only need one frame how exactly do I just export that one frame?

I forgot to mention that I hardly know how to use AE!!!

thank you for your ime and any advice would be awesome

if you don’t know AE you should google for a tutorial or
    get out the manual.

step by step instruction would take some doing without
mis communication if your not familiar with the app.

maybe they can tell you the .dpx frame in the sequence
    to open.

the gist of it is to launch ae, file, import, dpx
then drop it in the timeline, then export a .tif

[Lisa Rolley] “just curious if anyone knows if you can bring dpx files into Color and if so how? “

if you want to view the DPX files you can use any number of viewers.

AJA makes a tool to create QT movies from DPX stacks and it is free
    https://www.aja.com/ajashare/AJA_DPXToQTTranslator_v601.zip

you will need to download the app and AJA codecs to do this.

then open the first frame of the DPX sequence and you will be able to scrub thru the player to watch the clip as video so you can pick the frame needed

DPX files open directly in Photoshop (not PS Elements)

    resize under the Image settings
    save as tiff
