Downres 4K footage to PP CS6 1080P timeline
I am having trouble getting a 4K (3840 x 2160 .MOV file) to work on a 1080 timeline in Premiere Pro CS6.

on how it’s supposed to work, basically like this:
Drag a file from the project list to “New Item” icon at the bottom of the project window.
(The file is now in the timeline as 3840×2160)
Go to “Sequence Settings” and edit the resolution boxes to read 1920 and 1080.
Problem is: the boxes are greyed out and can’t be changed.
I followed his tutorial to the letter and can’t get it to work no matter what I try. I’ve tried changing things in the Preferences and also tried bypassing the “New Sequence” dialog on startup.Is it possible CS6 won’t work like CC (which I believe Dave is using)?

Does anyone know what an alternate workflow would be for the same results?
I’m not as experienced in Premiere as I should be for this level of work. -
you should google “red 4k footage premiere cs6”
somewhere on the RED site i think, is a red 4k decoder made for it.

Thanks much, Wish I had a RED – Would like raw files, but it’s Panasonic GH4 (.mov or .mp4) files.

Start Fresh.
Check you preferences for Scale to Frame size. You should enable this is it’s not.
Import your 4k media into your project.
Make a new 1080 sequence by clicking the new item button and choosing sequence. Then manually choose the preset for your desired sequence settings.
Now when you edit your 4k source to your sequence it should scale itself to fit the 1080 resolution.

That seems to work fine, but I have to be careful to select “Keep existing settings” in the warning dialog box, or else it changes the sequence back to 4K.
Now the file properties on the timeline are 4K, but the sequence properties are whatever the new sequence was set to. I created a new preset for this.

I thought it was working, but I’m getting a 1080 crop of the 4K on the timeline.
Any other thoughts please? -
It used to be that you had to set the pref prior to even importing the ftg into the project.
so if you did not start fresh….it may not be working.I think this has changed with subsequent versions.

Sorry for the delay. I’ve been away.
Finally got it to work. Setting the pref beforehand did the trick.
Now getting gorgeous definition with 1080 timeline.
