Thanks Jeff. Having such render problems I’m going to try on another computer.

    Roger,

What are your render troubles? I’ve been using Vegas since ver. 6 and with the exception of some Windows (OS) issues early in Ver. 9, I have not had any problems with Vegas up through 10c.

I’m also a Windows sys admin, so maybe I can help you get to the bottom of this.

    Hi Jeff,
Well, put simply I get an error message over and over when I try and render a large uncompressed .mov file. The file size is about 45 to 50 gigs. I’m trying to render now in smaller chunks but I’ve been sitting at my computer from early this morning (and most of yesterday too) and haven’t gotten one file made yet and it’s urgent I do so.
I’m using Windows7 64bit. I’ve tried using Vegas9 32 and 64 bit with no good results. I have had problems in the past but nothing like I’m having now.
I’ve got plenty of hd space and plenty of ram, etc.

Plenty of hd space? What about your temp files from the project properties? These are usually on the C drive and mine is very small.

If you make a 5 second time line selection, does it render good?

I wish I was there, I might be more help.

I have 295 gigs of free space on my C: drive where I think my temp files are located. However when rendering the .mov files, they make a temp file on the same drive as the final .mov file is placed.
Is there some correlation between those temp files that are set in the preferences and those that are being made when rendering the .mov files?

I’m not sure what you mean when you say “lower the preview to ram size”?

    Roger,

The temp file is the final output, when it is done it is renamed to [whatever].mov

[Roger Bansemer] “Is there some correlation between those temp files that are set in the preferences and those that are being made when rendering the .mov files?”

I don’t know, but when you’re working with such big files you need lots of contiguous space. Have you looked in the Windows Event Log for application error messages?
(Start menu | right-click on My Computer | Manage | Event Viewer)

I hope things are getting better for you.
