Downconverting 1080p to edit in FCP 5 on a G5
I’ve shot a project with the Sony Ex-1 in 1080p. Everything imported well into FCP 6, however, it looks like I may need to edit some of this footage in FCP 5 on a G5. As I understand it, 1080p can’t be edited in anything other than FCP 6, and FCP 6 can’t run on a G5.
My thinking is that I can downconvert all the footage to SD 24p video using compressor (needing to preserving the timecode), edit it on the G5, and then go back to the original HD footage in FCP when I’m ready to make a master by reconnecting the clips.
Has anyone had to do anything like this? Can anyone suggest a better or more detailed workflow?

I am running FCP 6.0.4 with Tiger 10.4.11 on a G5 dual 2.5 . I do 1080 50i HDV all the time.
I have also had XDCam 25p 1080 files working on this as well.

My bad. I was misinformed. I was told the latest version of FCP only ran on the Intel processors. I see here that is not the case:

FCP 6 can’t run on a G5? I just finished a long how shot on the Ex1 on my G5 Quad. Worked well.
