    Downconvert on capture from HDV 1080i to DV

    This is my situation:

    -we have 200+hours of footage (mostly 1080i HDV, some Beta SP, some misc.)
    -we are doing an offline-online workflow

    My workflow at this point is using the Sony HVR-M25U deck-out component-into Kona 3 for realtime downconversion to DV for offline. Capture Beta SP, etc, via Kona 3 as DV. Take into either Avid Symphony via Automatic Duck or online in FCP and recapture at full resolution.

    My question is about the HDV deck to Kona 3 into DV conversion. Will this work?

    Looks like I will need a analog to digital converter also.

    Yes, it’ll work and you will need an a/d converter. AJA makes them.

    You can also come out firewire and have the deck do the downconversion if you want to.
