    Hi
I have the KONA LH card working with FCP 5.1.2 and have a Barco SDI advm 20″ monitor.
We have shot som footage on our JVC GY-HD100 in 720p 25 mode. I would like to be able to view this on my Barco SD monitor – but I can

[Henrik Helms] “So I ask you here in the forum. Because I cannot find a setup in the AJA control panel that shows the 720p 25 setting.”

You don’t want a 720p setting for an SD monitor. It won’t show it.

You want to set the Output to Secondary 525/29.97 for NTSC or to 625/25 for PAL (I think it’s 625).

    Hi!
Yes I know that 720p 25 wont show on a SD monitor – that is why I want, as you suggest, to downconvert – but in my controlpanel it only says 625/50 – I am missing the 25 option….

    Kind regards

I think you will need to use the 625/50 option, which by now you have probably tried.

With so many scanning rates, it can be very confusing, especially in the NTSC countries.
Here in Australia it is 25p or 50i (even though there is the 1080 and 720 to contend with) but thankfully no drop frames as I cannot get my head around it. Then again, I have never needed to.

Well – now I tried several options – but came up with som new questions…
I am in PAL-land – and as I said before shot material in 720p 25 mode. I have used the easy setup in FCP for 720p25 – and in the video playback option on the FCP I have chosen 720p25.
In the aja control panel I have made my secondary format 625/25. What I would like to know is what format to choose in the video display mode in the FCP. The only choice I have is 720p25 (DVC Pro HD).
I then have live pictures on my Barco monitor but is is jittery (actually it seems like the aja makes it to 720p60 if I look on the control panel).
If I choose 720p50 it makes the frame freeze and only update the frame when I stops. The Play all frames are on in the FCP – so what should I do differently so I can se my footage on my Barco monitor.

    Kind regards
    Henrik

You can’t output 720p25 via HD-SDI as this is no standard format.

You can only output 720p50 as this is an official standard.

Unfortunately both AJA and BMD cards don’t offer a 2:2 Pulldown
    to output 720p25 as 720p50.

    Hi,

Just wondering if you found a way to solve this as I’m having the same problem.

    Many Thanks,

    Chris

the 720p25 Varicam easy setup now correctly plays the video out at 50p this was fixed in the 3.1 version of the kona driver.

this is the setting that should be used for all of the HVX200, HDX900 and other panasonic 720p25 materials.

Set the kona control panel to down convert to PAL via the secondary channel.

    Hello,

I’m having trouble with this as well, on AJA driver V 3.3 and have the secondary set at 625 25i and just getting flashing on my CRT. HD SDI is playing fine. Help would be greatly appreciated!

spoke with aja tech support and said that downconversion to 625 from 720 has a glitch & they’re working to fix it. As a workaround they had me turn off fcp effects handling for 8 bit uncompressed & use the aja 720p50 8 bit video playback. It now plays on the sd monitor but of course requires a lot of rendering.
