Double stroke / path line effect
Hi COW Community,
I’ve been looking all over your forums and the wider web for an expression that can create a double line effect. This is similar to how Illustrator allows you to set multiple strokes to a path or grow a stroke to make a double outline. This is not solved by simply duplicating the path when I’m using a custom path that bends in random ways. So when the path bends in on itself, the 2nd line needs to shrink and stay in line with the first line. I’d like to easily generate a 2nd path so that it can be like train tracks or car tread.
The only way I know I can do this is by generating this in Illustrator and then pasting the paths into After Effects. Is this the only way?
Any help will be fantastic, I’ve been pulling out hair over this one.

If it’s a closed path, offset path should do the trick. I’d duplicate the current path inside the shape layer and add offset path to that so you can change the color. You’ll find the path operations in the dropdown menu ‘Add’ when you twirl down the shape layer controls.
