did you have to do it? As noted above, some folks are running fine. Others, like myself, will wait a little bit and then install the x.1 versions after the ‘pioneers’ have done the dirty work on x.0!!! LOL

Now, if you have any experience with PC/NT world and the constant SP issues, you may not be complaining about operator error with Tiger!

I guess I have to upgrade to all new software – how convenient for Apple. amazing how there OWN software is so incompatible. For the past five years it’s been the same story, upgrade to this, then that doesn’t work, so you have to buy this, then you upgrade Quicktime and all hell breaks lose and you have to upgrade everything. Two years later you do it all over again. “

Do you think its time to figure out a better method of upgrading? Do you think it might be a good idea to stop burning your bridges behind you?

Before you make any substantial updates copy your boot partition to another partition. This will take less than an hour and the drive space is cheap. Then if your new install causes problems you can get back to where you were by rebooting on the copied partition.

In addition to doing a backup there are a lot of steps you can take to make the upgrade process safer. Running Disk Utility or DW to repair the drive, repairing permissions before and after the install, doing an archive and install is very safe, a fresh install with Migration assistant, or a fresh install and manually reinstalling all applications are some examples.

Ok. I’ve calmed down a bit. I still think Apple is shady in its marketing and there seems to be a lot of incompatibility between different versions of the own software, there’s also lots of bugs in all their stuff – but thanks for the suggestions. It looks like I’ll first delete the program folders for FCP, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, etc.. then re-install them, along with the latest Mac Pro App program. If that doesn’t work then apparently I need to back up my scripts and desktop stuff to a DVD, then use the disk utility to wipe my HD and re-install everything. fun. hopefully it works, we’ll see.
