for the 2-3 last year, I could only find maxtor. Or maybe only the maxtor died…
but I am not the only one who had bad experience with those cheap diamondmax 9 and 10 maxtors. The one inside my G5 keeps failing each november. -

June 29, 2006 at 4:15 pmI’d stick with the original name of this thread despite LaCie’s “efforts” for many reasons… here are some folks who would agree…

June 29, 2006 at 4:44 pmActually you should also mention the comments posted under this blog. When the drive was sent back to LaCie, the problem was quickly identifed: Firmware had simply not been updated.
Here is the last post from this customer on his blog:
“Latcho, have you tried contacting LaCie customer support? They were really helpful to me.
They mention the clicking problem on their FAQ. I’m debating closing comments to this post. It’s not really the proper place for this venting. They don’t have a discussion board on the LaCie site, but my blog really isn’t one either…
They sell like 50 bajillion drives a year, and I’m willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that it’s a very rare problem – it’s just that we’re more vocal about the problems now. Anyway, my drive is working great (touch wood). If you have a problem, get in touch with their customer support folks. Give them a chance to fix it before giving up.”A simple advice from this story: make sure that you have the latest firmware, especially when you upgrade your OS.

Seeing as Francois’ drive is being taken care of, I’d say the issue on this thread is dead. There are many people who will tell you never to purchase Avid. There are many people who will tell you never to purchase Med

Wow, the old brain was doing the Freudian thing again eh. Maybe my sub-concious was reacting to those phone calls I got from the Evil Empire… er… Avid before NAB.
