doing “cloning” in h.264
I’m sorry if I come off as extremely ignorant of the vf/x process but I was wondering about doing some “cloning” of actors and filming/adding them into a scene filmed with a Canon DSLR in the 1080p 24fps h.264 format. Am I asking for trouble or difficulties in achieving a seamless or professional look?
Also is the h.264 format decent enough for CGI/software work or should I look to another format?

Which Canon DSLR? If it supports Magiclantern, I’d recommend installing the firmware. I use it all the time and shooting RAW DNG. You end up with RAW files in 14bit 444 color space.

Canon 60D’s. Is shooting RAW files in 14bit 444 color space a bit experimental? I’m starting a big project (to me), I’d be editing in Sony Vegas 11, etc..
Maybe just sell my Canon’s and rent a BMC 4K, or 2.5K?

You’ll be doing this with green screen, right?
Can you schedule a test shoot? You’ll spend a little, but you’ll learn a lot. That will hopefully save a lot of time, energy and frustration on the actual production.

Yes, David is correct, shoot double system for sound. This is mostly true of all cameras. Dedicated audio hardware is usually better.
