Does Sony Vegas Pro require faster hardware now?
I wanted to ask this question a long time ago, but anyways, I noticed that on Vegas Pro 8.0 I can put 2-3 video effects (brightness, color correction) on a 480p video and barely get some lag when playing it on Preview-Full. But given the same hardware and scenario when using Vegas Pro 11 or 12, the playback lags to about less than 20fps.

I would check your project settings. If they don’t match the media it slows Vegas down. Most likely 12 opens in HD and 8 didn’t

That’s because Vegas Pro now requires faster hardware:
Vegas Pro 8.0:
- 1 GHz processor (2.8 GHz recommended for HDV)
- 200 MB hard-disk space for program installation
- 1 GB RAM
Vegas Pro 12.0:
- 2 GHz processor (multicore or multiprocessor CPU recommended for HD)
- 500 MB hard-disk space for program installation
- 4 GB RAM (8 GB recommended)
- Supported NVIDIA, AMD/ATI, or Intel GPU with at least 512 MB of memory
New features require more power. Vegas Pro 12.0 has been totally rewritten with OFX effects and GPU acceleration. It’s a different beast then Vegas Pro 8.0 was.
