Does GoPro .mp4 video need to be converted for PPro?

It will work just fine if your computer can handle it. Edit: You’re running CS4? Convert the file, CS4 isn’t as optimized as newer versions in handling h.264

If you have an older computer, you may find benefit in downloading GoPro Studio. This comes with the GoPro Cineform codec (Since before GoPro owned it, Cineform has and remains a respected editing codec). Converting your video to Cineform is much like using ProRes in Final Cut.

If you have Premiere on the same computer as Final Cut, you may see some benefit from converting to ProRes as well. Easy and familiar if you’re from a FCP world and aren’t experience the performance you’d like editing a native file.
