Does FCP have an equivalent of Avid’s “video mixdown”?
Is there a dedicated function in FCP that allows you to merge all the clips in an edited sequence into a single new clip? Up to now I’ve been achieving this by exporting the timeline as a QuickTime and then reimporting it.
Alternatively, is there any way of applying the same effect – such as a crop or mask – to every clip in a sequence automatically, rather than have to “paste attributes” on every clip individually?

There is no video mixdown. FCP always renders from the top own from the original media. Export is the only way.
You can select all the clips, or all the clips on a track, or select multiple clips and apply paste attributes to all of the selected items. You can also nest a sequence (place one sequence inside another) and apply a filter or motion parameter to the nested sequence.
