    Hi,

I’ve always wondered why FCP doesn’t have a “replace with…” function like After Effects. I’m working on a show that’s locked but the music/fx clip continues to change. There are level nodes all along the music track that I don’t want to have to put back in.

So I close FCP and I trash the old music track, and I re-name the new music track with the old one’s name. Re-open FCP and voila, there it is.

Problem is, this is just a clunky work-around. How do you guys handle this situation? I confess that I could be just missing the obvious here.

There is the Replace button, the Replace edit overlay, the keyboard shortcut. These replace clips with frame accurate precision, which is what you want in an editing application.

    All the best,

    Tom

    Thanks Tom,

I haven’t actually tried that function yet. I’ll give it a shot.
