October 11, 2011 at 1:16 pmHi Kevin,
I wasn’t aware that the images don’t shrink. To be honest the situation hasn’t come up as I usually don’t delete anything from the client image. I guess in the old days I used to delete captured footage and archive to tape but those days are long gone now.
I usually just drag the image from the work drive to the backup drive. I don’t create a new image, but if i wanted to shrink that would be the way.
as far as mounting I just double click the image in the finder, and to unmount i eject just like a cd or any other installer image etc.
hope that helps

October 11, 2011 at 1:21 pmJust found that you can compact a sparse image using terminal
“Similarly, a .sparseimage file that has expanded in size but then had files deleted, can be “compacted” to a smaller size with the following command:
hdiutil compact MyFile.sparseimage”from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sparse_image
