Does decreasing exposure highlights on the colour wheel suck?
Ok, is something wrong with my settings in fcpx? Or is the highlight control exposure on the colour wheel this bad? Decreasing the highlights just seems to make the whole image darker. When using Premiere I have no issues when decreasing highlights. (C300 ii, 10bit, clog 2)

Which controls are you using? In Premiere there is a specific exposure slider. This is comparable to adjusting the master luma level on the 4-way color wheels in FCPX. If you adjust the highlight wheel in Lumetri’s 3-way, then that’s comparable to the highlight wheel in the FCPX 4-way. However, if you are adjusting the specific highlight slider in Lumetri, then there is no equivalent control in FCPX, although you might be to a similar point using the curves.

It also loos like you are grading from the Log footage in Pr, and you may have a LUT on in FCPX. If you turn the LUT off in FCPX, you may find the behavior to be similar. Open the inspector, select “Settings” from the drop down in the lower left corner of the inspector window, and change the “Camera LUT” setting to “none”.
