  • Does Audio Recorded with FCP 7 meet these format requirements

Posted by Jared Smith on September 11, 2014 at 10:06 pm

I did a super simple audio recording for my boss using FCP 7
It is an audio recording that will be used for clients as they wait “on hold”
It was a simple lav going into a camera… then I just did away with the video
So the phone company has given me the format requirements for it to play correctly on our phone system and I need to know if anyone here can tell me if FCP will meet these requirements as is- and if not, what is the process to get it right
    thanks

Audacity can do this. I found these instructions a while back in this thread.

    1. Open Audacity.
    2. Open the mono Wav file.
    3. Click on the bottom left corner Project Rate icon to change the sample rate to 8000.
    4. Go File-Preferences and click on File Formats. Under Uncompressed Export Format, choose other.
    5. Choose WAV (Microsoft) for the Header and U-Law for Encoding. Hit OK.
    6. Now just select the audio file and use File-“Export As WAV” Choose the location and save.

Once I did all of this, the phone messaging system accepted the file.
