Does anyone actually use auto trace?
What do you use auto trace for (aside from super tight junk mattes). I have a lot of rotoscoping coming up on this next project.
example:
Camera is trucking down alley way. Girl walks into frame, says something to the camera and then continues to walk out of frame

I need to put a bunch of graphics and graffiti type stuff on the walls behind her. Usually I’d just go frame by frame and mask her out.Obviously this takes forever and is conducive to head aches and fits of rage. Additionally, I simply do not have time to creat such a detailed mask by hand.
I was thinking of employing auto-trace, but have never been to get very good results. I’ve never been able to create a mask that I could use for this sort of thing.
I know there has to be an easier way to do this. Maybe I’m not getting the most out of auto-trace, maybe there’s a different method completely that could help me out a little?
I’m open to all and any suggestions.
Thanks!
