  • Do you use 2 monitors- one for CC and one for image accuracy?

Ok, I’ll admit that I am a little bit confused. If we use a PVM-20L5/1 for HD color correction that can only display 800 lines, do we (and do you) use another monitor that can display full 1920 X 1080 to check the output image on a pixel-for-pixel basis? If so, can I just go full screen on one of our 23″ Apple monitors to check pixel accuracy?

    TIA for any help.

I use the same PVM for color correction and then I have a 50″ professional Panasonic Plasma display on the wall for full wide screen viewing. But I don’t really need the plasma, it’s just a nice thing for the clients and the HD is very impressive up there.

But do you “need” one? I don’t think so.

Thanks, Walter. That is what I was thinking we’d do…i.e. PVM for CC and a big client monitor for the “flash” required by the agency/network folks. I was just concerned about critical focus issues- believe it or not, we get dailies with plenty of focus issues…LOL!

    Thanks for your advice!

No problem. One thing I did find out though. I went to Costco originally and picked up a really pretty 42″ Plasma screen there. It was nice, but noisier than I expected so it wasn’t as “flashy” as I had originally hoped. When I switched it for the Panny professional model, it was like night and day. The 50″ model is the first one with true 1280 resolution and it’s just a complete “Wow!” for the clients when they view their HD projects up there. So if you’re going for the “Wow!” factor, get a pro unit with real BNC connections.

The 42″ is happily living in our game room now with the XBox 360. You know for the clients to play with. Honest. I never touch the thing…….

    ROFL!
My Xbox360 stays in my room hooked up to my 42″ Panasonic… It’s for the clients… really…
Can you get the SDI input card on the 50″ Panasonic also?

Yes, that’s the beauty of the Pro series. There are I believe 7 different inputs you can get from Component to SDI to HDMI and other computer hookups. I run two Component cards in ours. One for the FCP system and the other for the HD feed from our cable system.

We got the optional SDI card on my 42″, the component connectors are currently occupied by the Xbox360…. 🙂
    I really love this plasma…

Just be aware of the joyous multiple frame delay on those Plasmas.
