I don’t want to read a 1000 pages manual with things I’ll never use, I just want to build a city and make cam flies through its streets 😉

I just downloaded Blender.
Do you guys know a tutorial for building cities?
I never did that so I prefer you guys pointing me to a good tutorial than googleing and get lost with hundreds of options.

Another easy and free way is to go to DAZ3D and download the free DAZ Studio 4.5. Then search their content for Dystopia and sort by price and you’ll find for free:

Dystopia City Blocks 001-010 (Poser)
Dystopia City Blocks 011-020 (Poser)

Drop these into DAZ Studio and you have an instant city to fly through.

You could also use a program like e-on Software Vue which is specifically designed for creating worlds. It’s what Disney used for Pirates of the Caribbean and James Cameron’s team used for Avatar. As unbelievable as it sounds, e-on Software has a free version as well as an incredible purchase policy where you can buy as little or as much as you need. Get started for free with Vue 10 Pioneer but that does have a logo watermark. If you upgrade to Vue 10 Frontier for $99 you get a lot of power and no watermark. I’ve been using Vue 8 Infinite but it got too expensive to keep upgrading with each new version so I’ve fallen behind but it’s still great software at every price point.

For tutorials on Vue go to Geekatplay Vue Beginner tutorials and they will teach you everything you need to know for free. I purchased some of their tutorial DVDs because they are doing such an outstanding job I thought I would pay them back for what they had taught me but you can view all of them for free if you’d like.

Between DAZ Studio and Vue you will find software that is much easier to use than Blender / Cinema 4D / Maya / 3D Max, which are more all-purpose 3D applications not specifically designed for creating sweeping landscapes (although they can).
