I am working on a newer Mac that has a Windows side as well as Mac side. My footage is saved as QT files in DV format (from DV tapes) on a drive formated for Windows. I am working on FCP on the Mac side of the computer, saving onto a scratch disk formatted for Mac. I have been importing the footage and making my overwrite edits and dragging into the timeline. When I try to play the sequence on the timeline, however, I just get the “boop boop” sound. I tried rendering the footage and that didn’t seem to help. Is there a work-around other than re-loading my footage?

Unless you captured to a cross platform codec, it is best to work with footage in the format the NLE wants. Your windows side probably wants avi and you mac side wants movs.

Thanks. I’m thinking of getting another hard drive and making it Mac-side compatible and re-loading the footage -hoping that will do the trick.
