do I need a RAID setup to capture HD with Kona LH

Interesting Ben. I’ve heard that before, but it’s odd, because it seems to be quite random, working on some G5s and not others. I haven’t tried it recently, but in early tesing, it kept stalling and reporting dropped frames. My raid gets over 240mb/sec, so I doubt that was the issue.

That’s interesting. It should be noted that the conventional wisdom that this doesn’t work on a G5 was when it was FCP 6.0 and OSX 10.4. There’s been ProApps updates and other things that may have reduced the amount of horsepower ProRes requires.

That said, have you tried Edit To Tape? I highly doubt you’ll be able to pull that off w/o dropped frames.
