Hi, Do either models support both 50 AND 60 framerates?

i.e Are they either PAL or NTSC?

I know the z1 is switchable. Is it still the only camera that does this? Does Sony have any plans to release another camera that does this?

I really want to buy an EX but I might have to go for the z1 as I do a lot of work in both countries….

I don’t think converted footage would be broadcast standard, even with the higher end converters like FilmAtlantis. Does anyone agree?

    Anyone help?

    Thanks!!

[Christopher Barnard] “i.e Are they either PAL or NTSC? “

The EX series cameras shoot both formats. There are no NTSC only or PAL only EX cameras. One size fits all.

Thanks very much Don, none of the specs on various websites were explicit about this. Are there any other camcorders that do this?

    Cheers again!

I’m sure there are but I’m certainly no authority when it comes to which camera does what. You might try going here:

    https://camcorder-test.slashcam.com/

to read up on just about every hand-held video camera you can think of. On the very first page it looks like the Canon XH G1s does PAL formats as well.

    Hi Don,

The reason I am confused (again) is because on US sites, eg, BHPhoto, all cams except the Sony ZI show only NTSC framerates (60 / 30). UK sites for the same cams show only PAL framerates (50 / 25).

    That’s why I am a quite cautious.

I guess the best thing to do is ring up B&H!!

    Hi Christopher.
If you have the money: go for an EX1. The picture is so much better than in the Z1. I have had the FX1 sins 2004 and did buy an EX1 this year… And it takes all formats. and does it much better.

Thanks for the advice BG. Now I know the EX1 does both then I am sold. The Z1 is pretty old, takes tapes, the list goes on. I reckon I could stretch my budget a little. I’m sure it will pay-off even in the short term. The cards are a little expensive though. I reckon I will have to have a laptop on every shoot to dump footage on.

I’ll still call up B&H. More out of curiosity I guess.

    Anyhoo, thanks again!
