  • Do Disabled Clips on Timeline add to Output File Size?

Posted by Steve Schoenbaum on November 30, 2019 at 10:21 pm

Cutting a 3-camera piece. I’ve synced up the clips and pull back clips to reveal the shot I want underneath. It’s all simple and fast and easy to keep sync. But, sometimes the shot I want is the top clip and I can just leave the bottom clips as the top one will cover or I can can disable the lower clips.

The question is, does disabling the lower clips reduce the output file size as Final Cut treats them as not there? Does leaving an “enabled” clip under a top clip increase the output file size?

    Thanks!

if I get what you’re asking, then no, leaving those clips there, whether enabled or disabled, won’t make any difference to your final output file size.

Have you looked into using a Multicam clip for this? Immensely simpler and you can see all your angles at once and do a live switch as you edit.
