DNxHD and 720p vs 1080p

July 29, 2011 at 5:36 pmOK…I’m confused a little here. I have 1080p 23.98 DSLR footage that I can AMA into Avid MC5.5.1…and I can transcode to DNxHD36. But when I make a 720p60 project and AMA DSLR that is 720p60, the lowest DNxHD format I can go to is 145…and that isn’t an offline codec.
Why can’t I use DNxHD36 with 720p material?

July 29, 2011 at 5:45 pmGood request. The encode tables were only created for 1080 at the time. In theory you could probably make a goog looking DNxHD 22-25 for the 720p format as an offline proxy.

July 29, 2011 at 5:49 pmOH…it was overlooked? Even with a LOT of DVCPRO HD shot at 720p? I now that you can work natively with 720p 23.98 and not take up a lot of space, but I didn’t think that everyone did that. Avid is designed around the offline/online workflow.
Guess I’ll submit that as a feature request somewhere…
