  • DLT advice?

My current commercial project is at 2.5 hours and I will be adding two subtitle streams so it’s looking like it will need to be replicated on DVD-9, correct?

That being the case I will likely have to deliver the project on Digital Linear Tape, correct (other options?)?

So, I am looking for advice on the type of DLT unit I will need. I see a Compaq 20/40 GB DLT Tape Drive on Ebay now that looks like it would do the job. Any comments on this unit in particular or DLTs in general would be greatly appreciated.

Ask the replicator. Many are accepting DVD-9 projects on multiple 4.7Gb DVD-R discs. Others will take your files on a hard disk since you can buy 60Gb or smaller hard disks for less than $1/gb, it would be a lot cheaper than DLT.

Since NEW DLT drives go for several hundred dollars, one must ask, why are “barely used” drives selling on E-bay for $20 to $50? That’s too big a gap for normal depreciation to account for.

Thanks for the idea of using a hard drive, Steve. That makes good sense and will avoid the whole DLT issue.
