What I would like to do is fly a camera through a bunch of 3D layers with a hole in the middle which are arranged in an arc. I seem to remember a tutorial from way back about distributing 3D layers along a motion path. It may have involved duplicating layers and sequencing them, and auto orienting along path. Then you are supposed to be able to use the same key frames for the camera auto oriented and there you have it. Flying through doughnuts. I think this tutorial may have been from Total Training AE 5.

I’ve looked around and had a few goes and sort of gotten there, but no real luck so far. Can anyone shed light?

    Thx,

I could but, that would require spending money and time I don’t have plus wading through all the discs. Plus I think they were VHS. I don’t even have a VCR anymore.

    any other advice?

Alternatively you can distribute layers along a path with expressions, Dan does it here with his pages on Trails:

    Thanks Dave,

That was it. I pretty had the answer except for the deleting key frames part. Guess it was right in front of me the whole time. If you sequence layers overlapping by all frames except a few the layers auto distribute along the path since the keyframes of the duped layers are offset. Then delete keys-frames and Trim layers to frame 0. Save the key frames for the camera if you want it to fly along that path.

    Best,

Look for the AE “Ring of Cows” tutorial.

Brian Maffit’s contribution to this genre was his Space Coaster when AE introduced d#.
