Distributing 3D objects
Posted by Avrohom Kohn on November 2, 2005 at 11:12 pmwhen I tried to distribute some 3D layers (in the z space) i got an error message saying after effects cannot distribute 3D layers. Could someone please tell me a way to distribute 3D layers?
Thanx,

November 3, 2005 at 12:21 amThe only way I know of is to do it manually. Sucks, yes. The Align & Distribute palette only works in 2D.
There may be a way to do it with Expressions, but I know little about that area.

November 3, 2005 at 1:48 amIf you have a newer version of AE then you probably have 3D Assistants from Digital Anarchy on your install disk. They do exactly what they say, assist you in setting up layers in AE’s 3D space.
If you have them installed then they would be under the “WINDOW” pull down on AE: Box creator, cubic distribution, spheric distribution. Read the instructions on your install CD to get more information, or you can go to DigitalAnarchy.com and buy the set.
I pretty much refuse to 3D without them in AE…btw, not anyway associated with DA, I’ve just been using them since they were published and like them a whole lot.

November 5, 2005 at 3:50 amThere’s tutorials and more info on the 3D Assistants at:
https://digitalanarchy.com/3Dassist/3Dassist_main.html
In addition, I wrote an article for Studio Montly magazine this month which shows how to use expressions to distribute layers along a 3D path. It just came out, so I’m not sure if it’s available in stores yet.
cheers,
