I’ve got a scroll of text rolling from bottom to top movie credits style and I’d like the text to magnify when it reaches the middle of a rectangle area in the middle. The problem I’m running in to is that I’d like it to scale up when it reaches the middle and scale back down as it reaches the boundaries of the effect. The filters I’m finding give me little control over the shape of the effected area. Magnify looks to be perfect for what I want to do but it only gives me square and circle and I see no easy way of making a rectangle from that (3 times horizontal then it is vertical-I’m displaying names). Spherize kind of works okay but it’s distorting the middle too much and this is a conservative piece. Bulge seems to be the closest I can get to having control over the shape, but bulge’s problem is that it’s spherizing the distorted area and I’d just like to maybe scale it up so it’s more readable. I could animate the character size but it’s all in one text layer so I’m not sure of the easiest way to pull this one off.

TIA for any ideas or thoughts you may have.

    Bulge?

Most such effects require several different filters, carefully applied to stacked layers, masked, tweaked.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”

I’ll likely end up animating the range offset and scale to keep it all in one text layer.

Ah, animating text parameters. good call. Silly me, I did not think of that option. I tend to think of fillers for doing everything.
    I’ll remember your suggestion, though!

    Indeed.

If you think you might have to adjust the scrolling speed, you might want to tie the scrolling and the offset range with an expression, so if you change one, the other goes with it.

    Just a thought. 🙂

Good idea Steve, I’ll definitely tie them together somehow. 🙂
