dissolving images

I’m learning both FCP and Motion all while trying to complete a high visibility project on a tight deadline (just shoot me). Found a template that will do just nicely. It has 3 moving windows, text, etc. I’ve read how to place the footage in the windows but I want the images to dissolve within the window. How do I get the images to keep the same parameters and dissolve. Can the clips live on the same track or must a new track be created in the layer? I’m stumped
